It’s been a sorrowful week. We offer our sincere condolences and prayers on this road trip tragedy. Why is it that we see on social media an outpouring of sadness and grief with the recent Picton crash? When I heard the news on the radio, my immediate reaction was I hope it’s not a Filipino family. For us migrants, this is a collective journey, our migrating to Aotearoa New Zealand. They say that if one is living in a foreign country, one’s support systems are one’s countrymen, coming from the homeland. We collectively feel the pain, anguish and sorrow of this latest road trip tragedy. Most of us have had the great and awesome opportunity to go on long road trips, whether with family and friends. We know how important and meaningful those trips are and were. We always are extra careful when we drive but there are times when the unknown factor will happen. We can only hope and pray that when that time comes to us, we will be more than ready and prepared to overcome and surpass the danger. For now, we offer our prayers for those families affected by this road trip tragedy. May they rest in God’s embrace!
